In their confessions yesterday, the accused admitted to kicking Schoeberl's head repeatedly, which was propped up against a stone block. In earlier evidence, one of the accused admitted to "feeling sick". One of the group admitted yesterday to "finishing off" their victim by hurling a heavy stone against his head Schoeberl was then dumped in a disused silage pit. The dead boy was discovered last November after one of the assailants boasted of the killing to friends. One of the group then told police.Police said they suspected that people in the village who knew about the killing might have closed ranks because of threats issued by the ringleader, a scaffolder with a record of neo-Nazi violence.. Bad weather was blamed for a plane crash in north-eastern Turkey early yesterday that killed all 75 people on board, including 62 Spanish soldiers flying home from peace-keeping duties in Afghanistan.

The aircraft, which was apparently carrying the soldiers' ammunition, burst into flames and exploded on impact. It was the worst accident in the history of the Spanish armed forces.A villager said: "When I looked into the sky I saw a burning airplane. About two minutes later I heard two explosions, then a few more explosions." Another witness said: "I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for the explosions to end before I could get near it."The correspondent of a local television station, who arrived shortly after the tragedy, said: "Everywhere you look there are pieces of plane and the lifeless bodies of passengers."Television pictures showed burnt and twisted metal strewn over a wide area. Witnesses saw diaries of soldiers, family photos, music CDs and a half-burnt camera scattered among the wreckage.Rescue workers, firefighters and ambulances went to the scene and recovered all the charred human remains, which were taken to Trabzon, 22 miles away. "It will be very difficult to identify them," said Nihat Nalbant, deputy governor of Trabzon. "Most bodies are in pieces."The plane left the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Sunday and was heading for Zaragoza in Spain. The troops belonged to 12 separate units based in Burgos, Valencia and Madrid. The Turkish authorities said the pilot had requested permission to land in Trabzon to refuel, but lost contact when the plane was south-west of the airport.

The Spanish Defence Ministry attributed the accident to "thick fog in the area". It said the plane attempted to land "because of strong turbulence caused by the bad weather conditions". Also on board were 12 Ukrainian crew members and a Belarussian flight manager. Spain had hired the Russian-built Yakovlev 42 aircraft from Ukraine to bring the soldiers home. They had served four months in Afghanistan without suffering any injuries as part of the International Security Assistance Force (Isaf), established in 2001 to keep order after the American-led invasion. The plane's owners, UM-Air, said the aircraft was "technically impeccable" and the Ukrainian crew very experienced. Spanish military authorities said they often rented heavy transport planes because theirs were not big enough. Ukraine has developed a thriving air transport business, but suffered several air crashes in the past year.
