Despite Strong Effort, Seminoles Fall Short AgainUF defeats FSU 18-16January 23, 2010 There was a fiery build-up to Friday?s series of matches between Florida State University and the University of Florida, and the wait was well worth it.  A large and boisterous pro-Gator crowd made for a hostile environment, perfect for this classic rivalry to be renewed.  The teams played three matches culminating with FSU's Firxt XV taking on UF's nationally ranked A-side.  FSU gave the #18 Gators all they could handle, surprising a very confident Florida squad with tireless defense and excellent work in set-pieces.  Early on, UF was able to capitalize on a series of handling errors by the 'Noles near their own goal line to take the lead.  Down 10-0 in the first half, FSU winger Chris Gonzales drew the 'Noles close, touching down after a clever kick from fly half Dylan Hamilton.  Late in the second half and deep in Gator territory, a superb lineout move led to a try by prop Joe Walthall that brought the 'Noles to within two points.  For the third game in a row, however, the 'Noles fell just short of a win, dropping this one by an 18-16 final.  Props Walthall and Nick David were named co-men of the match with their work in the scrums being particularly noteworthy.  Although the 'Noles have not won a Division 1 fixture since moving up this season, they have been increasingly competitive, dropping their last two against nationally ranked opponents by a total of  just 3 points. FSU (6-4-2) drops to 3-1 in the 2009-2010 Florida Collegiate League (including D1 and D2 teams) but retains the inside track for a rematch with UF at the Florida Championship weekend on March 6th. FSU's Emerging and Development XV also came up short last night against the Gators despite a solid effort by many new players still learning the game.  Freshman scrum-half John Nguyen enjoyed an outstanding evening providing consistent service during appearances in both games.  In the Emerging XV fixture, recent transfer Garrett Brady commanded the backline effectively and will be looked upon for leadership in the future.  The Seminoles will look to end their three game winless streak this upcoming Saturday, January 30, when the University of North Florida travels to Tallahassee in Florida Rugby Union Matrix play.  In the two teams? last meeting back in February 2009, FSU defeated UNF 28-7.  That win ended an extended FSU losing streak against the Deadbirds.  Kick-off times and reserve grade match details are still being finalized.. While Gretzky is considered the greatest hockey player of all-time, he wasn’t the greatest coach of all-time.Instead, the Coyotes went out and found themselves the right man for the job in Dave Tippett who was let go by the Dallas Stars after failing to make the playoffs for the first time under Tippett’s coaching.Tippett has vastly improved the Coyotes. Fellows like [safety] Antoine Bethea, (cornerback) Jacob Lacey, (cornerback) Jerraud Powers don't need a lot of work in the offseason. It would not come as a surprise if he were to look for alternative racing options outside of Formula 1, where a field of fiery and enticingopponents could still be found.Of course with many drivers and indeed teams being challenging to predict in their pace this season Heidfeld may be able to seize a chance of any changes in driver line ups mid-season, but it is not the expectation that either himself or we asspectators should expect for such a worthy driver. The team may have given up hope on the German but I for one am willing to believe in a man who has too much to show to be left outside of the action.. Last year Boras took the negotiations for Manny Ramirez into spring training and this year Johnny Damon was the player he couldn’t unload till spring training.White Sox Withdrew OfferThe White Sox who seemed to be in the running till late last week when they withdrew their offer would rather have signed Damon to keep him from signing with the AL Central rival Tigers. There's another quote about his girlfriend's green bean casserole.

The centerpiece of the team, and a potential lottery pick had he left with Blake Griffin, has been sidelined with mono for the past two weeks and his return to action this year is questionable. In their last eight games, Warren has seen action in half of them and averaged 11 points in 27 minutes. Oklahoma simply is not talented enough to have their go-to-guy be a gametime decision. Power and slugging percentage, Heyward is at par or better than Evan at AA level He has 50 points higher OBP though and more stolen bases So Heyward is a superior player in most of the categories. With the Olympic break comes a time for a fantasy hockey owner to sit back and enjoy some hockey without worrying about plus minus, PIM, or how many power play minutes my players is receiving. However, with this break comes a chance to look ahead at the stretch drive for the playoffs and the much-discussed trade deadline that will affect many fantasy teams. During the Olympic break we will give three names at each position that should be on your radar to either acquire at the trade deadline or pick up off the waiver wire. First, we will examine the most important position, the goalie, and their defenders, while next week we will look at the centers and wingers. GOALIESSteve Mason, Blue JacketsLast year’s Calder Trophy winner has been a huge disappointment to many fantasy owners who selected the 21-year-old in the first couple of rounds. California gold diggers were popular in 1849. Recruiting rankings mean only so much. He is currently averaging 17 points, 7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting 48 percent from the field.

Made up of local firefighters from the Yorkville Hose Company, the team played mostly other Pennsylvania based teams. But Francis has been effectively out of baseball for a year and a half. Piling up the innings shouldn’t really concern potential fantasy owners. The next issue facing any hurler is how realistic his ERA and WHIP are and whether or not they are sustainable. Or who thinks that this was a subtle ploy by the Sixers to cut Iverson while they could.Don't bring basketball into this.
