A source close to the talks said: "ITV and Sky are still some way off agreeing the 'reasonable terms'.". Tony Blair faces a rebellion from his own backbenchers, including black and Asian MPs, over his plans to allow more faith-based state schools to be created under the Education Bill. The ban on her father was lifted only last year, with the personal pardon of the then president Bill Clinton.Mr Blair has supported faith schools because he was impressed by the educational standards achieved through their special ethos. It will give faith schools an independent right of appeal for the first time if they are refused state-sector status. Muslim schools were refused state support under previous governments and are expected to seek it when the Bill becomes law.She will soon issue guidance that new faith schools will have to work in partnership with other schools..

Jan Lenica, graphic artist and animator: born Poznan, Poland 4 January 1928; twice married (two daughters); died Berlin 6 October 2001. His first drawings appeared in 1945, when he was 17, his first poster in 1950. In just a few years his innovative film, theatre and opera posters had earned him a high reputation in Poland.International recognition was not slow in coming. Made in conjunction with Walerian Borowczyk, Lenica's first animated film, Bye sobie raz (Once upon a Time, 1957), won the Silver Lion in Venice and the Gold Ducate in Mannheim. Their highly experimental Dom (Home, 1958) received the Grand Prix in Brussels. Over the ensuing decades, most of his works were to win awards at major festivals. In 1963, after several of his projects had been blocked by the cultural authorities, he left Poland for Paris.

He was Visiting Professor at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard in 1974, taught animation at the Hochschule in Kassel, Germany, from 1978, and between 1986 and 1994 lectured on visual communication at the Hochschule der K?e in Berlin.Lenica described himself as moving on the fringes of fine art, film and literature. He often found inspiration in the works of Kafka, Jarry (whose Ubu plays he twice adapted) and Ionesco, who wrote a text to Lenica's animated film Monsieur T? (1959) and gave him a free hand to adapt Rhinoc?s for an animated short (1963). Defined as "painting transformed into a graphic sign", many of his posters have entered the bloodstream of his nation. With its squared mouth set to a scream, his Wozzeck (1964) assumed a political dimension during martial law, and came to symbolise the Polish situation.
